What is an Underwriter?
In the context of the performing arts, an underwriter is an individual, business, or organization that provides financial backing to cover the costs of a specific theatrical production. This funding helps theaters pay for expenses like set design, costumes, lighting, and venue rentals.
How Theatre Underwriting works...
While traditional corporate sponsorship helps fund a theater’s general, year-round operations, underwriting is strictly tied to a specific play, musical, or film screening. Underwriters choose which shows to support based on a combination of strategic marketing value, audience alignment, personal taste, and/or financial contribution requirements.
Being an Underwriter is beneficial!
In exchange for their financial support, underwriters typically receive perks like:

Marketing & Advertising: Business logos, advertisements, or individual names printed on marketing materials.

Complimentary Tickets: Blocks of reserved seats to use for themselves, clients, or employees.

Exclusive Access: Invitations to opening night events, cast receptions, or behind-the-scenes set and costume tours.

Tax Deductions: most performing arts organizations are non-profit (501(c)(3) entities), underwriting gifts are frequently tax-deductible.
Why theatres rely on Underwriters...
Producing live entertainment is incredibly expensive. Ticket sales rarely cover the full cost of putting a high-quality show on stage. By underwriting a production, donors provide the theater with the critical, upfront resources needed to fulfill its creative vision

For your contribution you and up to 10 guests are invited to the Preview Performance and you also receive two season ticket bundles (12 tickets) to be used at any time during the season.
You are also eligible to receive one full page (5.5Wx8.5H), black and white ad in the program for the show you underwrite. Your name or logo will be on all of our print and web advertising where our posters for the production are displayed, and on the cover of the programs for that show provided your underwriting is pledged prior to printing.
Full Show Underwriter

For your contribution you and up to 5 guests are invited to the Preview Performance and you also receive one season ticket bundles (6 tickets) to be used at any time during the season. You are also eligible to receive one full page (5.5Wx8.5H), black and white ad in the program for the show you underwrite. Your name or logo will be on all of our print and web advertising where our posters for the production are displayed, and on the cover of the programs for that show provided your underwriting is pledged prior to printing.
Major Underwriter

For your contribution you and a plus one are invited to the Preview Performance and you'll receive four tickets to any regular performance of the show you underwrite. You may also receive a 1/2 page (5.5Wx4.25H), black and white ad in the program. There are two Intermediate level underwriters per production.

For your contribution you are invited to the Preview Performance and you'll receive two tickets to any regular performance of the show you underwrite. You may also receive a 1/4 page (2.75Wx4.25H), black and white ad in the program for your business. There are two Key level underwriters per production.
